At the Royal Welsh Show, there were once again no breed classes for the Hill type North Country Cheviots. However, due to the growing popularity of this type in Wales, a significant number entered the Any of Pure Native Upland Breed category. Remarkably, the Hill type secured five of the six top positions and all the champion rosettes – an outstanding achievement.
The judge, Mr. Bob Williams from North Wales, was in search of well-bodied sheep that were correct in every aspect, and he consistently found them among the Northies entered.

The Overall Champion honor went to an Aged Ewe from Tomos Ellis's Hiraethog flock. This one-crop Attonburn-bred ewe, purchased for £2,200 at the Lockerbie In-lamb Sale earlier this year, distinguished herself from the start. Following closely in Reserve Overall and as Male Champion was another Attonburn-bred sheep: a Three-shear tup named Attonburn Destroyer, owned by R.O. Williams from Caerddaniel. He is a son of Heatherhope Vicious Stu and was also acquired from Lockerbie for £3,000.

Both the Reserve Female and Reserve Male were owned by Tomos Ellis. The Reserve Female was a homebred gimmer sired by Hiraethog Dominator, while the Reserve Male was the second-place aged tup, Achentoul D 23481, sired by Dorrey Kilted Warrior, which was another Lockerbie purchase at £3,000.
