North Country Cheviot Sheep Society
The Annual Sale of North Country Cheviot In-Lamb Ewes and Ewe Hoggs held at Lockerbie Auction on Saturday 8th February went off with a bang, huge demand across all sections meant a total of 104 females sold to average £761.
Stealing the show and receiving top price in the sale was Lot 74, a suberb three crop ewe sired by Wester Wildcat from well known breeder Jim Thomson, Kelso - standing out as soon as she entered the show ring, she later sold in lamb to Symington Auld Lang Syne to Pam Tapson for £4000 to join her Pam's Pack flock with a second bred the same way, Lot 71, going to the same home for £1800. The Kelso pen also received £2600 & 1900 for two more with the same breeding, Lot 72 heads to Holmrook in Cumbria with Mr Harrison while Lot 73 finds her new home in Banffshire with Messrs Johnstone. Lot 67 a gimmer sired by Humbleheugh C 25360 travels to Wigton, Cumbria with G Wilkinson for £2000. Overall 12 Kelso females sold to average £1583.
Park Hoggs topped at £1800 for the Reserve Champion from Jenifer Cowans Hightae flock, a super stylish girl sired by Carruthers Dancing Brave, heading to Argyll with S MacGill. The Stones Family, Nun Cote Nook also received £1100 for an Allanshaws Brazilian sired hogg from G Wilkinson, Cumbria.
In the Hill section, Bob and Becca Rennie's Attonburn flock took the the Champion rosette for Lot 75, an Achentoul Bilbo sired gimmer scanned in lamb to Dorrery Dynamite she later sold to D Renwick, Badcaul £1000, a second bred the same way made the same money, again heading North, this one to Thurso with Messrs Henderson. While their own pick of their pen, Lot 76, a Mowhaugh Constricter sired gimmer in lamb to Badanloch Xtra Special who stood third in the show heads to Wales with T Ellis, Hiraethog for £2200. Again their total consignment of 6 females sold to average £1100.
