Dingwall Show & Sale Report

The Annual Show & Sale of North Country Cheviot Hill rams took place on Friday 22nd October at Dingwall & Highland Marts, with a huge entry of 776 rams, the sale ring had a buzz from start to finish.

The pre-sale show, which was ably judged by Mr Stephen Mackinnon, McCaig Farms, awarding the Champion rosette to a 5 shear ram which was brought out by Hugh Mackenzie, Badanloch – Inkstack Caithness Mannie sired by Badanloch White Walker he later sold for the days top price of £8500.
Reserve went to a 2 Shear, Whitefield A 19566 sired by Stouphill W 15086 from WD Allen which sold for £3800.

The days second top price came for a Balnakeil 2 shear sired by Torrish 5545 from Andrew Elliot, he sold to Philiphaugh Estate for £5000. A second 2 shear at £3800 was St Johns Kirk Athlete sired by Newbank Taurus from Ted Fo who's pen also received a further £2000, £1600 & averaged £1640 for 5.

With the best average of the sale & leading the shearling trade was the Craiglands pen of Rory Mckenzie, Craiglands Bandit sired by Achentoul X 16397 sold for £2800 & the pen of 5 averaged £2080 after having a second at £2800.
3 shear rams sold to a top of £3000 for Longoe Xtra Special sired by Heathmount Patriot which came late in the sale from The Queen Elizabeth Castle of Mey Trust & the 4 shear, Keppoch Cracker Jack, brought out by Jan Mackenzie, North Loch Naver sold for £2000.

Averages -

616 rams averaged £650.73.
