North Country Cheviots in Strong Demand!

North Country Cheviot sheep are seeing strong demand across the country – with a gimmer reaching £1134 from KO Stones, Nun Cote Nook at Monmouthshire Livestock Centre Sale.

The autumn sales season has set off particularly well for the North Country Cheviot breed, with store lambs achieving £72.50 in Bakewell last month, it is obvious they are widely sort after across the whole country by finishers. Over 14000 lambs in Lairg averaged £63 at their opening sale of store & ewe lambs in August.
Breeding sheep have also been reaching highs with a new centre record set in Monmouthshire for a gimmer shearling from KO Stones, Nun Cote Nook – £1134 for the Allanshaws Nutter sired gimmer. Park type gimmers averaged £278 at the sale, with Ewe Lambs averaging £290.
St Boswells Auction had North Country Cheviot gimmers from WD Allen, Humbleheugh at £200 & the same sale seen Scotch Half Breds averaging £191.
Cheviot Mules have also been meeting with strong demand – C & D Auction Marts, Longtown annual sale of over 8000 Cheviot Mules Gimmers & Ewes lambs had gimmers reaching a new record of £230 for a pen of 16 & averaged at £189.60, while ewe lambs averaged £131.53.
United Auctions, Huntly held their sale of Cheviot Mules where the gimmers averaged £176.50 & ewe lambs averaged £120.03.
